Conversion of Foreign Driving Licenses in Singapore

Conversion of Foreign Driving Licenses in Singapore can be done easily for Class 3 and below vehicles. A foreigner above 18 years of age and holding a Work Pass/Dependent Pass/Student Pass may drive in Singapore with a valid class 3, 3A or 2B foreign licence, for a period of not more than 12 months. Do note that a Singapore driving licence is required after 12 months, foreigners who intend to stay and drive in Singapore for a longer period should consider converting their licenses.

Social Visits

Those on short term social visit may drive with their foreign licence for up to 12 months each time they enter into Singapore. For licence not written in English language, an International Driving Permit or an official translation in English language is required.

Work Permit Holders

Please note that Work Permit holder is not allowed to drive in the course of work on public roads unless the occupation stated in the Work Permit shows he is employed as a driver or his job scope requires him to drive from one place to another.

Converting Your Foreign License

You can only convert your foreign license for class 2B and class 3 driving licenses. Learner driving license are not eligible for conversion. Class 4 and 5 licenses required individuals to undergo training and take pratical tests before obtaining a Singapore driving license. No direct conversion for class 4/5 either.

OAC Motor Insurance – Loss of Use Benefit

OAC (Overseas Assurance Corporation) provides the optional benefit of Loss of Use.

The Loss of Use benefit is activated when the car repairs takes more than 2 days. For example, if your car takes 3 days to repair, you can claim $240. The benefit payout is $80 per day for up to max 7 days. You can use it to rent a car, or for your alternative transport allowance. Currently the additional premium for this is $100+GST

Road and Date Time Closures during Youth Olympic Games 2010

Members of the public are encouraged to plan their travel early, use alternative routes and be gracious road users when getting around during the upcoming Youth Olympic Games (YOG) period.

To facilitate the various Games activities, selected lanes or roads leading to YOG venues will be closed off. These selected road closures will take place between 7 to 26 August during affected hours.

Singapore ERP Rates Revision for 4 Gantries WEF 2nd Aug

The Land Transport Authority has completed its quarterly review on ERP rates. With effect from 2 August, it will cost $2.00, 50 cents less, to pass through the gantries at East Coast Parkway (Fort Road) and the KPE slip road onto the ECP between 8.00 am to 8.30am. The gantry at Eastbound ECP (Marina South) and on the slip road from Ophir Road will see an increased rate of $1.00, 50 cents more, between 6.00pm and 6.30pm. ERP rates at the other gantries remain unchanged. The next ERP rates review will take place in November 2010 for the 4th Quarterly ERP Rate Review.
